Great customer service from the first interaction to the final installation.
A new kitchen needs more than the right units and appliances. The electrical supplies also have to be in the right places before the fitter starts installing everything.
We have recently completed the electrical first fix for a kitchen renovation on Pines Road in Paignton. The preparation is now ready for the kitchen fitter, with the later electrical work to follow as the installation progresses.
This kitchen needs supplies for under-pelmet lighting, a fridge or freezer beside the oven, and a new oven with different electrical requirements from the existing arrangement. The customer is also updating the visible accessories and the main kitchen light as part of the finished room.
Planning the Kitchen Electrics in Paignton
First fix is the stage when we work out where the cables and connection points need to go, then install the wiring before the new kitchen hides the routes. It is an important point in the job: the positions have to suit the planned units and appliances, while still allowing the electrical installation to be connected and checked properly later.
At this Pines Road property, the basement gives access to existing electrical circuits below the kitchen. The proposed fridge or freezer and oven supplies are being planned from there, subject to checking that the circuits are suitable for the additional loads.
The oven needs particular attention. Its electrical requirements mean it cannot simply be connected to the same existing supply as the induction hob. The plan is to provide a separate oven supply, with a double-pole isolation switch in the basement and cabling to the new oven position. The existing circuit and proposed loading must be confirmed suitable before the oven is connected.
Sorting this out during first fix helps avoid finding, after the units are installed, that an appliance has no suitable supply where it needs one.
Preparing for Under-Pelmet Lighting
The new kitchen will have lighting beneath the wall units. Under-pelmet lights can make worktops easier to use and add a softer lighting option when the main ceiling light is not needed.
The first-fix stage includes preparing the electrical supplies and wiring routes for these lights. Once the kitchen units are fitted, the light fittings can be installed in the agreed positions beneath them.
Wireless switching is also planned for the under-pelmet lighting. This will allow the customer to control the lights from the agreed switch position without chasing an additional switch cable into the finished walls. It is a useful choice when the layout calls for a switch in a particular place but extra wall work would be disruptive.
Supplies for the New Kitchen Layout
A fridge or freezer is planned to sit to the right of the oven. That position needs its own suitable socket outlet, so a new supply is being prepared from an existing socket circuit in the basement. Before making the final connection, we will check that the circuit is suitable for the additional appliance.
The new oven supply is being treated separately because of the oven’s requirements and the existing induction hob arrangement. As the project continues, we will confirm the circuit suitability, install the agreed means of isolation and connect the oven in line with its manufacturer’s instructions.
These details may be out of sight when the kitchen is finished, but they make a difference to how safely and conveniently the appliances can be used.
What Will Be Finished After the Kitchen Fitter
The kitchen fitter can now move ahead with the next stage. Once the units and relevant finishes are in place, we can return to complete the electrical installation.
The remaining work includes fitting the under-pelmet lights and their wireless switching, replacing the kitchen switches and sockets included in the work with brushed metal accessories, and installing the new main kitchen light supplied by the customer. The existing switch and socket positions are being retained unless a change is agreed during the installation.
We will then complete the necessary connections and testing of the new and altered wiring, check that the lighting and appliances operate correctly, and provide the relevant electrical certification where required.
